The process is a tool, not the goal
👋 Good Morfternight, this is Paolo Belcastro, with the tenth issue of TTL: Tools & Thoughts for Leaders.
Today, we talk about flexibility, and we put our money where our mouth is, leading by example.
I just spent the week in Portland, OR, USA for WordCamp US 2024 (an excellent edition, by the way), so TTL 10 is short and sweet, driving the point with two videos and a meme.
The thought I want to leave you with, is that while it’s great to take inspiration from other companies’ journeys, one should never apply their solution verbatim to their situation.
For instance, I posted in the past about the importance of one-on-one meetings, and I still recommend that for newly created teams, going through the forming, storming, and norming phases. Once the performing stage is reached, though, it is critical to adapt. To the product, to the customers, to the scale, the growth rate, and many other variables.

What matters is the goal you are set to reach, and to adjust and adapt your structure and processes so they serve that goal.
Don’t let the process become your goal.
